MONKSTOWN RESIDENCE

A complete reimagining of a neglected 1970s house.

A full extension and renovation of a 1970s house that hadn’t been touched in decades.

DesignLed came on board before a builder had even been appointed, shaping the structure and layout from the outset. The extension opened up the back of the house entirely, replacing a series of small, disconnected rooms with a generous open-plan living space. A second, more formal sitting room at the front gave the parents somewhere to retreat to. The two-tone hallway – one of the studio’s hardest fought elements – sets the tone the moment you walk through the door.

Over more than a year, we worked closely with the clients at every stage – guiding decisions and gently pushing the design. From the outset, there was a strong shared design sensibility. That alignment gave the clients the confidence to trust our design decisions. The result is a modern, light-filled home that bears no resemblance to what was there before.

The project appeared on the front cover of House & Home and was shortlisted for an Irish Fit Out Award.
